I think your podcasts are a great idea - very informative and helpful! I am a member of a horse rescue organization in Tennessee, and we are currently in the process of getting custody of and rehabilitating 70 horses from a local farm. We have taken possession of the 10 worst cases, out of which one has died.

Body condition scores on all of these horses were all a 1. We do have local vets assisting us, but it would be great to have additional information on how to best feed and care for these animals - especially in those first critical days. Thanks! Julie

Dear Julie Thanks for the kind words, and thank you and your organization for being there for those neglected horses. Good quality hay, fresh water, a salt/mineral block, and some TLC will go a long way to getting those horses back to health. Also, increasing the fat content of the diet is a good way to increase calories without excess carbs. Vegetable oils like safflower or corn oil and rice bran are good sources of fat. Flax seed and flax seed oil are great sources of omega-3 fatty acids. Platinum Performance Equine would be a great choice for a supplement that contains omega-3 FA’s and vitamins and minerals. Keep up the good work and stay in touch. Eric De Vos, DVM equineU.com
